After suffering a brain injury from his fight against Charles Conwell in 23, american fighter Patrick Day has died aged 27.
Day was rushed to hospital on Saturday after he had been knocked out from Charles Conwell in the 10th round on the undercard of the fight of Oleksandr Usyk with Chazz Witherspoon.
A physician in the ring treated him and had been stretchered by paramedics and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
He had been in a very critical requirement for the upcoming few days and on Wednesday Day dropped his battle.
Promoter Lou DiBella said in a statement:He was surrounded by his loved ones, close friends and members of his boxing team, including his own mentor, friend and coach Joe Higgins. Based on Patricks family, staff, and people closest to him, were thankful for the prayers, expressions of support and outpouring of love for Pat who have been obvious since his trauma.
Patrick Day did not need to box. He came from a good family, he had been smart, had good values, educated and had additional avenues open for him to make a living. He decided knowing the inherent risks which every fighter faces after she or he walks right into a boxing ring. Boxing is what Pat loved ones to do.
It gets quite difficult to clarify or warrant the hazards of boxing at a time in this way. This is not a time where edicts or pronouncements are suitable, or the answers are readily available.
Its, though, a time to get a call to act.
