Umbrella Corps
James: This game does not need to be so low on the list. This could have been avoided. During several preview occasions PC Gamer’s Tom Marks expressed real curiosity about Umbrella Corps as an interesting competitive shooter that didn’t lazily presume the aggressive deathmatch template and throw it in a lean Resident Evil diegesis. Zombies ramble every map, and they do not attack you , but by penalizing different players’ magic zombie repellant apparatus, you can send the horde after thema book idea, I think. Resident Evil 6
James: Fuck this match. Problem is, nobody actually desired a Resident Evil game to be about those things, so I understand the criticism Resi 6 obtained. I have a certain fondness for the Mercenaries style, however, and wrote about it some time ago. A reboot needed to happen after this.
James: Revelations was most potent on the Nintendo 3DS, but discounted on the PC years after the truth, not having novelty renders its shortcomings out in the start. The environments feel empty, small, and also static. Enemies are simple-minded and look in smaller classes than Resi 4 or 5, which turns combat into an intimate event, confident, but minus the crushing threat of amounts, experiences rely more on surprise compared to stress.
It will not help that Revelations’ opening minutes occur on a beach where your first threat arrives in the kind of beached fish blobs. Survival terror. Revelations isn’t a terrible Resident Evil game by any means, but a very rote and controlled one, particularly on the PC.
Samuel: It felt to be an effort to merge the design principles of older Resident Evil with Resi 4 controls, and yeah, its handheld roots are apparent. For completionists, it’s nice that this made its way to PC, but it’s definitely no one’s favourite entry in the collection.
James: Resi Zero was really my first Resident Evil game. It best strength is nailing the signature strain and helplessness of this string, tank controls included. Shifting between Rebecca and Billy divides the stunt survivalist pressure further, and I dig the opening train scene because of its suffocating, slow introduction into the new characters and extreme, timed finale.
However, when I attempt to remember virtually anything about the sport, I go blank. There is another mansion, a few levers, and more zombies as anticipated, but this time they’re riddled with large leech monsters. In 2017, the zeitgeist has since moved on from leeches as an immutably horrifying concept. They’re slimy and dark and little –get it over. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Joe: After playing the original Silent Hill in early 1999, I moved to Resident Evil 3 with a level of lost confidence. Dealing with jagged and witty personalities that looked so much worse compared to Wesker and Birkin, shifting between alternative dimensions, and putting waste into a number of its gut-wrenching bosses really influenced mepersonally, and ultimately caught me wholeheartedly. I therefore entered Nemesis believing I knew what to expect. Nemesis was clearly the largest threat and even then felt as a slightly beefed up version of Mr X/T-00 from Resident Evil 2. Run to the next door and leave your worries at your rear.
This, naturally, was not true at Resident Evil 3. For the very first time, enemies–specifically Nemesis–could follow you into new regions in an effort to continue the hunt. In the event of Nemesis, it would burst through gates and doors with such force I swear the cartoons gave me nightmares hours after playing. Sure, Jill was equipped with an assault rifle in the offbut this only meant she had been expected to utilize it. 1 simple change to this Resi formula abruptly made the next string entry one of the scariest horror games I had ever played at the time, also left me with a few of my strangest, funniest videogame memories of this day.
James: Revelations two is the most underrated game from the series, easily. Hell, Moira could be a unrigged crash as long as she made to continue to keep her precious, precious dialogue. “I mean, what from the moist barrels of fuck,” is classic Resi if I have ever noticed it.
Revelations two failed the episodic construction justice. Episodes introduced weekly apart, a somewhat artificial means to split the game up since it is safe to assume the whole thing was content complete, but having a new two-hour amalgamated Resident Evil romp every week for a month was a joy. It did not only occupy my head for a weekend–I had been detained for a month, by hokey mix-and-match unnatural creatures and dopey (but lovable) characters no further.
It was not the series’ peak in level design, mystery design, or storytelling, but it’s definitely the very self-aware and most readable, a comparably light-hearted survival horror tour via Resident Evil’s most endearing traits–up till that point, at the least.
Resident Evil 2
Tim: A very important entry in this set. Expanding from the original’s mansion setting to take from the actual zombie apocalypse occurring in Raccoon City was smart, if evident. Samuel: 21 years later, this remake evokes nostalgia to Resi two places and personalities, but seems like a completely new game. What a treat. The zombies are properly nasty, too. This seems like some of the best pieces of the modern third-person Resident Evil entrances, with frightful minutes to the grade of Resident Evil 7. It will make you wonder what all those older entries will find the remake treatment .
Finally, since we believed it one point fewer than Resident Evil 7, then it belongs just below it with this list.
Andy K: Why is this really special is how it combines the slow, challenging survival horror of these basic matches with the extreme over-the-shoulder combat of RE4. There could have been there, however, Capcom really nailed it.
In addition, I like how it is not a slave to the source material, providing old locations and experiences a fresh spin. As Samuel says, it feels like a brand new game: modern and thrilling, yet hitting the very same defeats as the 1998 original.
