The lightness and strength of this type of construction is adapted to the spirit of the catamaran, which allows high speeds with little wind, not to mention its possibility to evolve in both inshore and offshore navigation due to the presence of retractable fins.
Technically the preferred materials for hull and superstructure construction are predominately sandwich composites using laminates of epoxy resin and multi-axial E-glass fiber reinforcements encapsulating a linear structural PVC foam core. Monolithic laminates will be used in defined areas. There will be use unidirectional carbon fiber reinforcements in areas requiring high strength, such as parts of frames, bulkheads, beams, mullions, and girders. All reinforcing fibers, core materials and resins materials in our composite structures are supplied by European companies that have been type approved by one of the major classification societies. The hull shell bottom will be produced in a female mold. The surfaces will be fair and smooth. The remaining hull shell structure will be produced by male molding. Lamination of some major parts will be fabricated by the time honored hand lay-up method, followed by vacuum consolidation to ensure maximum strength and minimum weight will be achieved. As most part are very large and laminated, this method allows for the minimum of void creation and a better control of final product free from any deficiencies in resin content.â€
